Learning for Life (LfL) was established thirteen years ago as a personal response to the need for education, especially of girls, in Pakistan and India. Our founders, Charlotte Bannister-Parker and Sophie Swire, were moved by their experiences travelling on the subcontinent. They decided to establish a charity that would provide quality education in South Asia. Over the years, LfL has evolved into an innovative, dynamic force in the field of education for development. In South Asia, we work with partner organisations such as the Society for Integrated Development of the Himalayas (SIDH), Khoj, the Sarhad Rural Support Programme (SRSP), and the Afghan Women's Education Centre (AWEC). LfL is also active here in the UK, raising children's awareness of development issues through our nationwide UK Schools programme. We are committed to supporting teachers and their pupils; on the street, in refugee camps or in remote villages. In South Asia, LfL provides pre-primary education for younger children, and vocational training for those who are a little older. In the UK we work with primary schools and youth groups to help children understand the hardships affecting their fellow pupils in South Asia, as well as things that make them giggle. Since our creation in 1993, LfL has worked hard to provide education that is realistic and relevant to people's lives. Health, literacy, vocational training and capacity building skills are taught as part of an innovative curriculum that has increased the enrolment and retention of children in education, particularly girls in rural areas. We keep a close eye on the progress of our projects through regular field visits by LfL staff and independent evaluators. We also help our partners to strengthen their own monitoring and evaluation skills so they can better measure and understand the positive impacts of their work.
We receive regular requests for funding and partnerships, and we welcome enquiries about new projects. To request an information pack, please email info@learningforlifeuk.org |
